The “22578VIC Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis” is a training course designed to provide essential knowledge and skills for managing allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. Below is an outline of the key components and what is covered in the course:
• Confirm an Allergic Reaction and Respond to the Situation: Learn to identify the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions, ranging from mild to severe, including hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, and shock. Understand how to quickly assess the severity of the reaction and take immediate action.
• Provide Appropriate First Aid Response for Allergic Reactions, Including Anaphylaxis: Learn first aid techniques to respond to allergic reactions, with a focus on anaphylaxis. This includes the proper use of epinephrine auto-injectors (such as EpiPen), monitoring the affected individual, and providing comfort and reassurance while awaiting emergency assistance.
• Request Assistance and Communicate Details of the Incident: Understand the importance of effective communication during an emergency. Learn how to contact emergency services, relay critical information, and guide them to the scene of the incident.
• Evaluate Response to the Anaphylaxis Emergency Incident: After providing first aid, learn how to assess the response to the incident. This involves determining if additional medical attention is required and ensuring the individual receives follow-up care.
• Develop and Review Individual Anaphylaxis Management Plans: Learn how to create tailored management plans for individuals with known allergies. This includes identifying triggers, outlining emergency response procedures, and specifying the use of medication and equipment.
• Develop and Review Strategies to Minimise the Risk of Allergic Reactions, Including Anaphylaxis: Explore ways to reduce the risk of allergic reactions in various settings, such as schools, workplaces, and public events. This could involve controlling allergens, providing training to staff, and ensuring quick access to emergency medication.
• Develop a Communication Plan to Provide Information About Anaphylaxis and the Organisation’s Management Policy: Learn how to create a communication plan that informs others about the risks of anaphylaxis and the organisation’s policies for managing it. This could involve distributing information, conducting training sessions, and ensuring everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency.
• Complete Documentation: Understand the importance of maintaining accurate records related to anaphylaxis incidents and first aid responses. Learn how to document incidents, emergency responses, and management plans to ensure compliance with regulations and support continuous improvement.
Courses can be combined on the same day to cover multiple topics, providing flexibility for organisations seeking comprehensive first aid training for their staff.
